TreeHands.png

May 21, 2020: During these extraordinary times, we have continued to see numerous people coming together in countless ways, to care for each other and their communities.

We know that many of our citizens are READY to come back to the Parks and Centers to HELP…

BUT SAFETY WILL ALWAYS BE OUR TOP PRIORITY!

*PARK & RECREATION VOLUNTEER PROJECTS, EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES ARE STILL "ON HOLD" UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!* County offices are now scheduled to begin reopening July 1.

Here are a few ways YOU can help out in your Parks NOW:

  • KEEP SAFETY FIRST! Observe all social distancing and public health directives.
  • Look for wildlife! Take photos of animals, birds, insects, plants, flowers, scenic views, etc.
    • UPLOAD your photos TO THIS LINK - your pics may be posted to Park & Recreation's social media!
  • When you go walking, take a small trash bag and gloves with you – pick up trash along your walk, place in a trash receptacle and then WASH YOUR HANDS.
    • Always wear gloves; avoid sharp or heavy objects; and please stay out of streams/water.
  • Check us out on Facebook for "Happy At Home" videos: https://www.facebook.com/MeckParkRec/
  • Follow us on Twitter @meckparkrec or Instagram meckparkrec
  • WHAT ABOUT THE HUMMINGBIRD FESTIVAL? We have made the difficult decision to shift the annual Hummingbird Festival - August 8 - to a virtual format, for the protection of our patrons, staff and Volunteers. Please send YOUR hummingbird photos to the link above - and watch for other ways to be involved in the Festival!
  • STAY CONNECTED – Contact VolunteerServices@MeckNC.gov to receive information about Volunteer opportunities, returning soon!
THE PARKS ARE OPEN - Go to the main page: www.parkandrec.com
for tips on SAFELY visiting the Parks, Greenways and Nature Preserves!
