WE LOOK FORWARD TO A YEAR OF JOY, HOPE, PROGRESS AND OPPORTUNITY!

THE NUMBERS ARE IN FOR 2020...In the face of the MANY challenges of this past year, "numbers" alone don't tell the whole story. It's true that 2295 Volunteers generously gave almost 16,600 HOURS during 2020 - with reports still coming in - but beyond that:

  • At the very beginning of 2020, anywhere from 350 to 400 Volunteers per month were helping out at Recreation and Senior Centers – as youth sport coaches, tutors, program assistants and more.
  • Over 200 responses to our Volunteer Survey were received back in June 2020, with MANY great suggestions for bringing Volunteers back to Park & Recreation SAFELY after the shutdown.
  • Since late July, more than 3000 pounds of litter and debris were removed from Parks, Nature Preserves and Greenways by Volunteers; along with countless stacks of invasive plants!
  • Volunteers with NC Cooperative Extension have continuously provided services through the Master Gardener phoneline and a number of virtual programs.
  • A skilled group of 194 Volunteers worked for more than 4000 hours in our Nature Preserves during November, on behalf of the health and well-being of our local deer population.
  • During December, Volunteers worked long hours at 2 Recreation Centers to distribute donated food and bicycles to residents in need.
  • AND THERE'S SO MUCH MORE…PARK & RECREATION ISN'T THE SAME WITHOUT YOU!

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR AMAZING VOLUNTEERS for giving so much of your TIME, TALENTS, ENERGY, DEDICATION, CARE AND CONCERN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, YOUR COMMUNITY AND YOUR NEIGHBORS!
