Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation's Horticulture Team is proud to facilitate the Department's Memorials Program. To date, over 250 memorials have been installed to commemorate loved ones or meaningfull events. Interested parties can make a gift in honor of a loved one, organization or event by dedicating a tree, bench or brick in a park, greenway or nature preserve. Your gift represents a lasting tribute for years to come.
The cost of a tree is $250 and includes a 4x6" engraved brick (3 lines maximum text with 15 spaces per line) which is embedded in a concrete footing which holds it in place for viewing. Trees are guaranteed for one year from planting date and the Department will replace it one time if it dies during the first year after planting. The planting period is from November 1st thru February 28th each year but tree orders may be placed at any time during the year. The size of trees planted will be approximately 2" in caliper and will be 6-8' in height depending upon species. Patrons may identify a preferred tree species but Park and Recreation Horticultural Staff will exercise final determination as to whether the tree identified is appropriate for the chosen site, etc...
NOTE: Freedom. Romare Bearden and First Ward Parks (as well as some Uptown sections of Little Sugar Creek Greenway) are unavailable for new trees at this time. No orders for any tree will be processed until payment is received.
