Project Information: This stream corridor has become heavily eroded, and this erosion is causing breaks in the sewer system, causing raw sewage to spew into the stream. Streams are a vital part of our stormwater infrastructure. As such, in situations like this, Mecklenburg County will step in to stabilize the stream and halt erosion. The method we are using to stabilize the stream involves the removal of some trees; however, we have made the effort to save as many large trees as we can. In some cases, existing trees have become destabilized and, unless removed, they will fall into the creek. Thus, they are being removed.
We understand that the removal of large trees is shocking from an aesthetic standpoint, and that trees are a vital part of animal habitats. All of the trees we removed will be replanted when the project concludes. In Seversville Park specifically, larger trees will be planted in order to encourage faster fill-in of the stream buffer and to restore park aesthetics.
If you have additional questions about the project, please contact Stephanie Roberts-Bowman at (980) 314-3239 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
