COVID-19 & Use of Park and Recreation Facilities

For the health and safety of our staff and visitors, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is limiting access to many of our facilities.  When you head out to enjoy our beautiful parks, greenways, nature preserves and other facilities, we ask that you follow CDC guidelines, as well as executive orders from Governor Roy Cooper and directives from the Mecklenburg County Public Health Department.

For your safety, know and follow the "Three W's":

  • WEAR a cloth covering over your nose and mouth when in public places, indoor or outdoor, where physical distancing of six (6) feet from others not in your household is not possible.
  • WAIT six (6) feet apart to avoid close contact with others.
  • WASH your hands frequently, or use hand sanitizer.

Parks, greenways and nature preserves remain open for public use.  Programs continue to be offered on a limited basis.  The following changes will begin on Monday, March 1:
  • Outdoor facilities will be open for use under normal hours, including lighted facilities.
  • Aquatic and fitness amenities at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center will be available by reservation.
  • Reservations for athletics fields will be accepted with restrictions.
  • Indoor shelters are open for reservations with capacity requirements.
  • Outdoor shelters are open for reservations.
  • Reservations for camping at McDowell Nature Preserve will be accepted.
  • The SkatePark at Naomi Drenan Recreation Center will reopen.

We will continue to update this page and our social media accounts with operational changes.
