COVID-19 & Use of Park and Recreation Facilities

For the health and safety of our staff and visitors, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is limiting access to many of our facilities.  When you head out to enjoy our beautiful parks, greenways, nature preserves and other facilities, we ask that you follow CDC guidelines, as well as executive orders from Governor Roy Cooper and directives from the Mecklenburg County Public Health Department.

For your safety, know and follow the "Three W's":

    • WEAR a cloth covering over your nose and mouth when in public places, indoor or outdoor, where physical distancing of six (6) feet from others not in your household is not possible;
    • WAIT six (6) feet apart to avoid close contact with others;
    • WASH your hands frequently, or use hand sanitizer.

Group gatherings in park and recreation facilities of individuals who do not share a household are discouraged.

The following Park and Recreation amenities are open to the public:

    • All Parks, Greenways and Nature Preserves (closing at dusk)
    • County Golf Courses (the Cadillac Street Driving Range remains closed)
    • Tennis and Pickleball Courts (daytime usage only)
    • Athletic Fields (For individual daytime usage only.  Reservations are not being accepted at this time.)
    • Public restrooms are open; however, the Department will continue to offer port-a-johns and handwashing stations for public use at select park locations.
    • Boat Ramps at Ramsey Creek Park, Blythe Landing Park and Copperhead Island
    • Outdoor shelters are open on a first-come, first-served basis only.  Reservations are not being accepted at this time, and groups with members who do not share a household may not gather.

The following Park and Recreation amenities are closed to the public:

    • All Recreation, Senior, Aquatic and Nature Centers (including the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center)
    • Indoor Shelters
    • Camping at McDowell Nature Preserve, including Copperhead Island
    • Grayson SkatePark at Naomi Drenan Recreation Center

Additionally, please note that all in-person public meetings and presentations have been postponed until further notice.  Many of our public input sessions are not being offered in a virtual environment.  Please monitor our social media accounts and this website for details.
