Death Certificates

  • Death Certificates are completed by the Pathologist after the exam for cases which fall under MCMEO jurisdiction.
  • The certificate is INCOMPLETE until the designated funeral or cremation service completes their portion of the certificate.
  • It is then filed with the Vital Records Office of the County of Death. The Vital Records Office provides families with certified death certificates which allow loved ones to complete legal matters on behalf of a decedent.
  • The Mecklenburg County Vital Records Office can be reached at 704-336-2819.
  • For storage cases, the primary care physician of the decedent will complete the death certificate.
