How to Get Involved

Are you interested in protecting natural resources and educating the public about conservation?
Consider getting involved with the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District.

Volunteer
Help your local Soil and Water Conservation District with legislative awareness programs for local, state and federal officials, conservation programs, urban and agricultural BMPs (Best Management Practices), fundraising, tree sales, rain barrel sales, and youth and adult education events.

Serve as a District Supervisor
Represent your community on the Soil and Water Conservation District Board as a natural resource decision maker.  Identify local soil and water conservation issues and develop SWCD programs that provide solutions to these issues.  District Supervisors serve four year terms on an elected or appointed basis.  Please contact the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections for specific details regarding filing for office.  Citizens seeking appointment to the Board of Supervisors should contact the District directly.

Serve as an Associate Supervisor
Support the District by serving as an Associate Supervisor on the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District Board.  While Associate Supervisors are ineligible to vote on Board actions, they attend monthly board meetings and provide input to the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District Board on local soil and water conservation issues and programs.  An Associate Supervisor position is an excellent means for interested parties  to become involved prior to running for office or seeking appointment to the Board.
