Mecklenburg County is happy to assist private schools with either starting a new recycling program or improving upon an existing one.  Contact us to:

  • Receive up-to-date information on all materials that are currently recyclable in Mecklenburg County
  • Learn where to recycle or donate special circumstance materials such as styrofoam packaging, equipment or supplies, or hazardous waste materials
  • Receive lesson plans and ideas for activities on recycling, litter prevention and composting to incorporate into school curricula
  • Get suggestions on field trips to County recycling and composting facilities
  • Schedule a guest speaker
  • Receive Word templates for recycling container signs that you can modify and print

Private schools are responsible for providing their own interior recycling containers.  Many schools use low-cost and easy-to-obtain receptacles such as copier paper boxes to collect paper in classrooms and administrative areas, and 5-gallon buckets to collect cans, plastics, metals, cartons and bottles in hallways and other convenient locations.

  Make your own recycling container

These container signs are Word templates that you can modify to fit your specific recycling program. You can then print them on sticky labels, or on plain paper that you can laminate and glue/tape on your containers.
