Mecklenburg County Solid Waste-COVID 19 ALERTS

Mecklenburg County Recycling Centers are currently operating on a normal schedule of Monday through Saturday, 7am until 4pm. Monitor this page closely for any changes, including closures, in Recycling Center operating hours.

Note: The Hickory Grove Center does not accept TRAILERS LONGER THAN 10 FEET on SATURDAYS. Please divert these loads to the Compost Central or Foxhole Centers. Directions to the Centers are available here.

Please adhere to the following guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID 19 at the Centers:

  • If you are sick, or in the same household as some who is sick, refrain from visiting the Centers until you and/or the household member is healthy.

  • Maintain a physical distance of at least six feet, or the current CDC guidance, from others when visiting the Centers.

  • Properly cover your coughs and sneezes. Do not spit or smoke while at the Centers.

  • Double bag trash items that are originating from quarantined homes, or other sources where people are sick.

  • Double bag all recyclables originating from quarantined homes and place in the household trash compactors or bulky waste.  DO NOT place in the recycling bins. This is for the safety of our recycling staff who hand sort the material. Once your house has been cleared for Covid 19, please resume recycling as usual.

  • Avoid the Saturday Crush by visiting our centers Monday-Friday 7am-4pm.

  • Place all items intended for Goodwill or other donation centers in BULKY WASTE. DO NOT place in the recycle bins. If you have questions, please consult with Center staff.

  • Some people do not exhibit the symptoms of Covid 19; therefore we request all customers to provide and wear their own personal protective equipment, such as gloves and face masks, while visiting the Centers.

  • The Centers only accept credit cards (but not American Express) and debit cards as payment. NO CASH or CHECKS are accepted.

  • The City of Charlotte trash collection no longer collects yard debris and bulky items. This has resulted in longer than usual lines and customers at the Centers. Plan your trips accordingly to accommodate an usually long wait time.

  • Questions about Mecklenburg County Full Service Centers are answered on our Info Line at 980-314-3867; Questions about City Services can be directed to 311.

THE REMAINING SHREDDING EVENTS FOR 2020 HAVE BEEN CANCELLED TO PROTECT THE COMMUNITY AND FACILITY STAFF.

STAY TUNED HERE FOR UPDATES.
