Licensing Procedure for Commercial Hauling Companies

In order to receive your Municipal Solid Waste Collector License, the following steps must be completed:

1) A Permit Application for Commercial Hauling Company must be completed and returned along with a check or money order made payable to Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services in the amount calculated from the following fee schedule:

  • 1 - 9 vehicles-  $30.00/vehicle
  • 10 or more vehicles - $30.00/vehicle for the first nine (9) vehicles, $20.00/vehicle for each additional vehicles.

The number and type of vehicles shall be specified on the enclosed application form.  Each vehicle must be categorized as to:

  •  year
  • make
  •  model
  •  capacity

2)  After the aforementioned requirements are met,  an inspection will be made of your equipment, facilities, and proposed operating methods.  If your inspection date has not been scheduled, please contact (980) 314-3858.

 3) The completed application, liability insurance documentation, and fee must be returned to:

I.          Temporary Vehicle Substitutions                     

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Management Regulations require that haulers notify this Department prior to placing any unpermitted vehicles into service.

Temporary vehicles used during garbage hauler operations must meet the same vehicle liability insurance limits that permanent vehicles do.  If the temporary vehicle used is not attached to your current vehicle liability policy, you must insure that the rental entity or company maintains the same level of insurance for that vehicle.

II.         Insurance Company Notifications

All permitted operators are required to provide adequate documentation of current liability insurance in force to this Department. This is usually in the form of a Certificate of Insurance (COI)

III.        Reporting Requirement

 Each month, the enclosed Municipal Solid Waste Collector Monthly Data Report must be submitted to:
