​School Recycling and Disposal

To make recycling and solid waste management easier for CMS schools,  Mecklenburg County will supply, upon request:

  • Recycling containers for classroom, hallway, cafeteria and administrative area. View the CMS Recycling Guide here.
  • Posters that highlight acceptable recycling materials, including milk and juice carton recycling.
  • Private schools are responsible for providing their own interior recycling containers.

 What to place in the recycle bins:

 DO NOT PLACE THESE ITEMS IN THE RECYCLE BINS:

  • Plastic Bags, Plastic Wrap, or Plastic Film
  • Shredded Paper
  • Ceramics
  • Pots & Pans
  • Glassware
  • Paper Plates or Napkins
  • Batteries
  • Light Bulbs
  • Wire Hangers
  • Clamshells or Styrofoam
  • Plastic Food Trays or Cups

Call Mecklenburg County at 980-314-3868 to report or inquire about:

  • Missed recycling collection
  • Frequently overflowing recycling dumpsters
  • Concerns about recycling possibly going into a garbage truck
  • Starting a food waste recycling at your school
