Overview
The 2018 N.C. Building Code family became effective Jan. 1, 2019. This replaces all state building codes in North Carolina, with the exception of the electrical code, which became effective in June 2018. Please note: The ICC A117.1-09 (Accessibility Code) is still in effect for the 2018 code cycle.

Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement does not have any code books for sale.
Special Inspection Process for Fire Penetrations
Effective January 1, 2019, the 2018 North Carolina State Building Code requires certification of Fire-Resistant Penetrations and Joints; affecting all applicable projects submitted under the 2018 NCSBC, regardless of submittal date.
Primary buildings affected are High-Rise construction projects and/or those projects listed in table 1604.5 as a Category III or IV.
