Air Quality monitoring stations are located throughout Mecklenburg County to determine peak air pollution levels, typical levels in populated areas, air pollution transported into and outside the city or region, and air pollution levels near specific sources.
The pollutant concentrations above are measured and reported in near real-time by monitoring instruments. Data is updated each hour and was last updated: 07-17-17 at 10:11 AM.
Rather than near real-time, these pollutants are analyzed manually and available after 90 days. A 24 hour sample is collected on a filter according to the above schedule. Additional samples are taken using a collocated monitor every 6th day to verify measurements from the primary monitor. All samples are analyzed in a lab to determine the pollutant concentration for that 24-hour period.
Montclaire air quality monitoring station is located at Montclaire Elementary School, 5.3 miles southwest of Charlotte’s central business district. Data collected at this station represents particulate matter concentrations in residential areas in the Charlotte area with high population density. Data is used to assess compliance with the
National Ambient Air Quality Standards for particulate matter.
