​Tuberculosis


Tuberculosis(TB) is a serious disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. The bacteria usually attacks the lungs, but TB bacteria can attack any part of the body such as the kidney,spine,and brain. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal.

In 2017, a total of 34 cases (3.2 cases per 100,000 persons) were reported in Mecklenburg County. While overall cases are fairly low, TB case reports and rates have increased for the third consecutive year in the county.
