Placemaking Program
The City of Charlotte’s Placemaking
Program launched in 2018 with the mission of using urban design and
placemaking to transform underutilized public spaces into vibrant places
for people. The Urban Design Center in the City of Charlotte’s
Planning, Design, and Development department is leading the effort with

Comprehensive Plan is a plan that will guide how our city grows and how

community input and ideas and turns them into the actions that guide our
city’s decision-making in both the near- and long-term. It’s a plan that relies on connections –
with other plans, with budgets, with what’s going on in the day-to-day
life of Charlotte. Learn more >>
Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organiation (CRTPO)
The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) is
the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for
the Charlotte Urbanized Area. Federal legislation requires Urbanized
Areas with populations larger than 50,000 to have an MPO, whose primary
function is to carry out the transportation planning process among the
member jurisdictions within its established planning area boundary. Due
to the growth of the Charlotte Urbanized Area, and the subsequent
expansion of the MPO planning area boundary, the CRTPO was established
in place of the former Mecklenburg-Union MPO. Learn more >>
