​HIV/STD Testing - Community Sites

HIV and STD screening is offered around Mecklenburg County to help individuals know their status and enable them to take steps to protect their own health and the health of others.

Non-traditional site testing allows improved access to screenings by providing testing at a variety of locations and alternate hours with no appointment needed.​


  • F​ree and confidential screening for HIV and syphilis provided at all sites.
  • Screening for Hepatitis C, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea available based on need.
  • Information on PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) available.

How do I get my results?

Results are given after seven days from the day tested.

After seven days, there are three options to access your results:

  1. Call 1-855-790-8968
    • Enter the Unique ID given to you during your test visit, followed by #.
    • Enter your PIN (six digit date of birth, MMDDYY), followed by #.
  2. Return to the community testing site in 2 weeks to get a printed copy of your results.
  3. You may visit any of the 2 health department locations and present a photo ID to recieve a printed copy of your results. You do not need an appointment.

What if I need treatment?

If you have been exposed to an STD or are experiencing symptoms an appointment for treatment at a public health clinic is required. Symptoms may include abnormal discharge, bumps, blisters or sores, difficulty urinating or sore throat. 

Appointments for additional screenings, a physical exam or medication can be made by calling 704-336-6500. 

Community testing sites may provide referrals to an HIV/STD Public Health Clinic or community partner for addtional treatment or testing.


No eligibility requirements.

No appointment needed for testing.


Testing services are free and confidential to all patients.
