Thanks to the Federal “Farm to Family Food Box” program Loaves & Fishes is excited to partner with our friends at Second Harvest Food Bank in distributing excess fresh produce boxes at a series of Pop Up Food Shares this summer.  Participants will need to register to receive a box but a referral from a professional source will not be required. Click here to register at the various locations throughout the remainder of the week: Loaves and Fishes Pop Up Food Share

In need of a COVID-19 testing site? Atrium Health will be screening throughout the community. There is no appointment needed – screening and testing will be conducted on a walk-in basis.

How It Works

1. No appointment needed – screening and testing will be conducted on a walk-in basis.

2. Know the symptoms. Get screened only if you have coronavirus symptoms – fever, cough, shortness of breath, or loss of smell and/or taste.

3. Just walk up. You don’t need an appointment or any kind of identification (ID).

Get tested, if you need it. Based on your symptoms, you might get tested in our mobile unit.

It's back! Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) is having their 14th Annual Health/Career Extravagnza on campus (100 Beatties Ford Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216) at the Brayboy Gymnasium. There will be food vendors, free HIV, Blood Pressure and Glucose testing, free haircuts, line dancing, games, and DJ Meddi wil be providing music. This is event is sponsored by JCSU Health and Human Performance Department and Village HeartBEAT. So come party your way to a healthy lifestyle and find your career path!

Grier Heights Annual Parade.pngGrier Heights Annual Labor Day Reunion & Parade

Monday, September 2, 2019, 10am-5pm

The historic Grier Heights Neighborhood will be hosting its 54th Annual Labor Day Reunion & Parade on Monday, September 2nd from 10am-5pm. The parade will take place from 10am – 12pm, and will begin on the corner of Orange Street and Fannie Circle and end at the Grier Heights Community Center (3100 Leroy Street, Charlotte, NC 28205) where there will be entertainment and vendors. All are welcome for this wonderful opportunity to fellowship with members of the Grier Heights Community for the Labor Day holiday!

Commissioner Vilma Leake Senior Town Hall Meeting

Wednesday, October 19, 2017, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
District 2 Commissioner Vilma D. Leake will hold a town hall meeting at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center (700 E. 4th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202) to give senior citizens the chance to hear from various County departments, visit resource tables and learn about services specifically catered to them. The meeting will have exciting speakers, entertainment by the Silver Fox Cheerleaders and a special surprise guest. Lunch will be provided.
 

Men's Health Symposium

Saturday, October 14, 2017, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Friendship Missionary Baptist Church (3400 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216) will host a Men's Health Symposium.  There will be:
  • a medical panel discussion and consultation
  • nutrition counseling
  • fitness coaches
  • FREE SCREENING TESTS: Kidney, Obesity, Prostate, Diabetes, Lipid Panel, Blood Pressure, and Glaucoma 
  • raffle for a free TV

Community Empowerment Fair

Saturday, September 30, 2017, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Friendship Memorial Baptist Church (3400 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216) will host a Community Empowerment Fair. Residents of the Beatties Ford Road community will have the opportunity to connect with neighborhood resources, job training, educational opportunities, healthcare services and spiritual support.

Members of the Beatties Ford community will be provided a cookout, family games, music, and access to the following participants:        
      • American Red Cross
      • Charlotte-Mecklenburg Libraries
      • Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department
      • Communities in Schools
      • Duke Energy
