A caring community works to ensure no family is left out in the cold. When unexpected expenses pop up, even covering basic necessities can be a challenge. But there’s no need to be forced to choose between necessities like food and utilities. Mecklenburg County can help keep your home warm and well-lit this winter. LIEAP, a federally-funded energy assistance program, makes direct, one-time payments to gas or electric utility companies for qualifying households in need. The county determines eligibility based on household income, cash reserves and resident status.
