Research and Planning

Strategy BoardProviding program evaluations, policy analysis, and performance tracking, the Research and Planning Division (RPD) is an integral part of strategic planning efforts in Mecklenburg County. RPD's products contribute to increased efficiency and effectiveness within the criminal justice system by supporting objective, evidence-based decision making.

RPD is also tasked with researching, developing, piloting, and implementing new projects and programs aligned with the Criminal Justice Services mission of reducing criminal justice involvement and strengthening the well-being of the community.

Data and/or Project Requests

Please submit any data, research, or project requests via this online form in order to get your project into our queue for consideration; requests not submitted via this form will not be considered. Once submitted, the Research and Planning Division will review and provide feedback regarding the request as soon as possible.

If the Research and Planning Division is able to fulfill the request, a staff member will be assigned to you and will notify you regarding next steps. We appreciate your consideration of the CJS Research and Planning Division to assist with your research and project needs.

Strategic Initiatives

Justice System Dashboards: The dashboards will be web-based tools designed to provide citizens an interactive, high-level overview of criminal justice system activity.

Data Warehouse: The data warehouse is a repository of information from the record management systems of the Arrest Processing Center, the Mecklenburg County Jail, and the Mecklenburg County Courts and allows staff to access comprehensive data on the criminal justice system.

Performance Monitoring and Evaluation

Research and Planning assists all CJS programs in developing performance monitoring systems for internal use. This effort is to ensure supportive work environments for CJS staff, as well as, effective programming for Mecklenburg County residents.

RPD has facilitated the administration of the Correctional Program Checklist assessment tool (CPC). This validated, standardized tool provides scores on how closely programs that serve justice-involved populations are meeting known principles of effective intervention. Feedback and recommendations are also included in the final assessment product. Please contact us for more information on obtaining a CPC assessment for your organization.
