Case Resolution Dashboard

Background

Mecklenburg County district and superior courts are responsible for hearing criminal cases that include felony and misdemeanor charges, among other things. The Case Resolution dashboard contains information about criminal cases processed by the court that if convicted, have a potential penalty of incarceration. The dashboard contains all cases initiated between January 1, 2014, and the present (data updated daily on a one-day lag) that have not been deleted due to an expungement (a legal process to remove a criminal charge from a person’s record and to seal or destroy the state’s records of the arrest, charge, and/or conviction). The dashboards rely on data from the Criminal Justice Services’ Data Warehouse which includes arrest processing, jail, pretrial services, district court, and superior court data.

Case Resolution Dashboard (download dashboard tips)

In Mecklenburg County, each criminal case is made up of exactly one charge. The Case Resolution dashboard displays information about each case (charge) as it is processed through the pretrial stage of the justice system. The Case Pretrial Period begins with law enforcement issuing a Citation, serving a Criminal Summons, or arresting the person for a criminal charge (Custodial Arrest) and ends when the charge is resolved (e.g., Dismissed, Not Guilty, Guilty).
