County Sells General Obligation Bonds
Mecklenburg County successfully sold $200 million General Obligation (GO) bonds for educational purposes on Thursday, Sept. 29. The winning bidder was Citigroup Global Markets with interest rates ranging from 2 percent to 5 percent and a true interest cost of 2.2810 percent. By comparison, the Bond Buyer Index is 2.98 percent. The final maturity of the bonds is 2035 resulting in 12.38 years as the average life of the bonds. These bonds were rated AAA by Standard and Poor's, Fitch Ratings and Moody's.
This sale follows the successful $148.5 million Refunding Bond sale on Sept. 14 to refund $168.5 million of GO bonds to achieve interest savings and fix some variable rate bonds. The underwriters for the refunding issue were Wells Fargo and Citigroup. This negotiated sale resulted in $4 million net present value of savings.

Mecklenburg County Sponsors '2nd Chance Week'
This week, the Mecklenburg County Child Support Enforcement Office (MCCSE) is sponsoring an amnesty initiative known as "Second Chance Week."
This program allows non-custodial parents to resolve any outstanding child support issues without the fear of arrest or prosecution. Customers will be able to visit the MCCSE Office to have their Orders for Arrest removed, make payment arrangements and meet with their case managers.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month -- a time to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives at the hands of their abusers and celebrate all survivors of intimate partner violence.
Mecklenburg County has several events planned including free training sessions, a candlelight vigil, a golf tournament, benefit concerts and has arranged for the Wells Fargo/Duke Energy Center to be lit in purple on Oct. 3.
