 Commissioner Ridenhour to Host Community Meeting

Commissioner Matthew Ridenhour, District 5, will host a community meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., at the Morrison Branch Library Auditorium, 7015 Morrison Blvd., Charlotte. Everyone is invited.

Speakers from Mecklenburg County, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be present to discuss Morrison Library remodeling, future library plans for south Charlotte, greenway expansion, CMS student assignment and more.

DSS Participates in National Adoption Day

More than 20 Mecklenburg County families are set to officially grow.

Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS) is one of several local agencies participating in National Adoption Day on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and serves as an effort to raise awareness about the approximately 700 children in foster care in Mecklenburg County waiting to find permanent, loving families.

Reid Neighborhood Park Officially Opens

Residents in the Reid Park neighborhood now have a brand new place for fitness and recreational activities thanks to a partnership between Park and Recreation and several community partners.

On Friday, Nov. 13, a dedication ceremony was held marking the grand opening of Reid Neighborhood Park in west Charlotte. The park includes several outstanding amenities including:

  • A half-court basketball
  • Community garden plots
  • A park shelter
  • Park benches, tables, water fountain and grills
  • Natural surface trails
  • An open lawn
  • And public art pieces celebrating the history of the community.
