Taking the FY2015 Budget ‘On the Road’

In anticipation of presenting my recommended budget to the Board on May 29, over the next few weeks I will be making informational presentations to six different civic groups throughout the County.

During these “roadshow” presentations, I will be talking about how the overall budget process works and then taking questions from the audience. I believe these interactive, face-to-face meetings will help increase public engagement and interest in County government as we head into FY2015.

My first presentation will be at Charlotte Senior Centers, Inc. at 2225 Tyvola Rd. on Wednesday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

CONNECT Our Future Needs Your Insight and Recommendations

CONNECT is taking the final steps on the path to create a preferred growth framework for the greater Charlotte region and inviting you to participate in a meeting focused on creating the “Ideal Growth Scenario” for the County and the region. The audience for this meeting is elected officials and local government staff members. At this meeting, the group will review data gathered via the Connect Our Future website tool, and community forums, small group meetings, and other events held throughout the region.

Because of its size, and the number of Consortium members from Mecklenburg County, you are invited to attend any of the three meetings being held in Mecklenburg. The content will be identical, but it is likely that the discussion will be slightly different at each location.

1. Matthews Town Hall
Thursday, May 8, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m

2. Huntersville Town Hall
Monday, May 12, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

3. Hal Marshall Building, Woods Auditorium
Tuesday, May 13, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

What Will Happen at the Meeting?
  • Review the top five priorities, or outcomes, for growth from each county and the entire region
  • Find out how growth options performed in each of the four growth scenarios presented
  • See what outcomes are most important to the County’s “Ideal Growth Scenario"
  • Provide direction to CONNECT staff on how to adjust the County’s “Ideal Growth Scenario"
  • Find out what’s next in the CONNECT Our Future process

Welcome to New Orleans: NACo 2014

The 79th Annual NACo Conference and Exposition in New Orleans is scheduled for July 11-14, 2014. Thousands of County officials from all over the country will gather to learn, network, and in our case, encourage folks to attend the 80th Annual NACo Conference in Charlotte during July 2015.

Scheduled workshops, seminars and speakers are designed to help county elected leaders and staff better understand federal, state and local policies and legislation that affect counties nationwide. In addition, caucus meetings, affiliate groups exchange information, vote on leadership, and help shape the year ahead for NACo. Dozens of exhibitors will also be on hand demonstrating the latest ideas and innovations to make counties better.

The conference kicks off Friday, July 11 and wraps up on Monday, July 14 with a presentation encouraging folks to come to Mecklenburg County next year. County staff and representatives from the Charlotte Regional Visitor’s Authority (CRVA) will be on hand with information about next year’s conference.
