State of the County Address Set for Feb. 16
Ella B. Scarborough, chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, will present the 2017 State of the County Address on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. in the chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.
All elected officials and other dignitaries in Mecklenburg County are invited, along with the public and the media.
For those who can’t attend, the speech will be broadcast live on the Government Channel, Time Warner Cable 16, and streamed online at www.MecklenburgCountyNC.gov.
Village HeartBEAT’s Competition Season Underway
The fifth year of Village HeartBEAT's (Building Education and Accountability Together) competition season is underway. This year, the program recruited a record 32 churches fielding 10-person teams.
This month, the program kicks off weekly training in its Thereasea C. Elders Community Health Leadership Academy, and has partnered with the American Heart Association to present the Check Change Control Program, a community-based evidence intervention to improve blood pressure control.
Village HeartBEAT, a Mecklenburg County Public Health initiative to address risk factors associated with obesity and heart disease in the African American and Hispanic populations, is one of 50 finalists in the national Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge.
