BOCCDSS Director Appointed to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Foundation Board

I would like to recognize Department of Social Services Director Peggy Eagan on her recent appointment to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Foundation Board (CMCF).

CMCF, which is managed by the Foundation for the Carolinas, benefits charities that support children and youth, environment causes, housing, and more.

Since its inception in 1995, the CMCF has given grants in excess of $30 million.

Peggy’s term will begin on Jan. 1, 2016 and run through Dec. 31, 2018 (with an opportunity for a renewal of one additional term)

Congratulations Peggy!

Mecklenburg County Contractor Outreach

Mecklenburg County will host a contractor outreach event on Thursday, Jan. 28 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Hal Marshall Center, 700 N. Tryon St. The information session will give County general contractors the opportunity to identify and pre-qualify Minority, Women and Small Business Enterprises and principal trade contractors who will submit bids for the following projects:

  • Morrison Regional Library Renovation & Expansion
The goal of this project is to update the 25-year old Morrison Regional Library and provide 21st century space that supports a wide range of library programs and creates a community hub for surrounding neighborhoods.
  • MEDIC-Headquarters and Operations Facilities Relocation
This project is part of the County’s “Bringing Mecklenburg County to You” Government Facilities Master Plan. It may include the renovation/adaptive reuse of an existing 120,000 square foot industrial facility and the construction of a 40,000 square foot two level facility. The entire facility will be renovated and reprogrammed for incorporation of all of MEDIC’s facility needs. Space needs include office areas for administration, training, finance, operations and support.
  • Valerie C. Woodard Center Renovation
This project is also part of the “Bringing Mecklenburg County to You” Master Plan. The renovation will allow for the relocation of multiple County agencies. This project will include the complete renovation and furnishing of approximately 200,000 square feet of shell space at the facility.

Immediately following the dedication, you are invited to attend a small reception and tour the facility.
If you are unable to attend, you can watch the ceremony live on County’s Periscope channel.

The LUESA relocation is part of Phase 1 of the County’s “Bringing Mecklenburg County to You” Government Facilities Master Plan.
