New Service Evaluation Process to Launch

Mecklenburg County is changing the way it evaluates programs and services. In September, the Office of Management and Budget will launch a new evaluation model called Service Evaluation.

Service Evaluation is focused on specific items or questions and provides an in-depth evaluation of the efficiency and/or effectiveness of the programs and services related to that item or question. The new model can be used to assess how a service is provided, identify how an agency can improve performance, or inform decision makers on how to allocate resources.

In mid-September, Director of Strategic Planning & Evaluation Dr. Monica Allen will present the Service Evaluation Model to the Board. After the presentation, the Service Evaluation Team will establish a list of FY2015 planned Service Evaluation projects.

If you have questions about the Service Evaluation model, you can contact Dr. Monica Allen, director of Strategic Planning and Evaluation, via email.

Save the Date for Employee Fest 2014

Employee Fest 2014, a celebration of the hard work of Mecklenburg County employees throughout the year, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Freedom Park. The event will feature entertainment, including performances by County employees and interactive games, as well as recognition of Customer Service Heroes of the Year, Team of the Year and the Employee of the Year. Lunch, catered by Jim & Nicks BBQ, will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Please let LaShonda Hart know if you plan to attend Employee Fest so that we can reserve a parking spot for you in the parking lot in front of Mahlon Adams Pavilion.

Child Support Awareness Month

Each year, August is designated at Child Support Awareness Month across the United States in order to highlight the importance of the financial support that parents provide to their children. This year, Mecklenburg County’s Child Support Enforcement (CSE) staff will commemorate Child Support Awareness Month through several special events, including hosting a pillow drive and collecting personal hygiene items which will be donated to women’s shelters and transitional living families. CSE’s outreach team is also visiting women’s shelters across the County to provide an overview of the programs offered by the department.

Other events planned for Child Support Awareness Month include:
  • August 11-15: Non-Custodial Parent Week – the male staff of CSE will supply all male non-custodial parent clients with neckties to assist them with proper dress attire when pursuing employment.
  • August 14: CSE male staff will host a two-hour Fatherhood Initiative Orientation, focusing on the rights and responsibilities of fathers who have been named in a child support case. The orientation will start at 6 p.m.
  • August 18-22: CSE will provide a bag of school supplies to each child that visits their offices with custodial or non-custodial parents. Each bag will include a pencil, eraser, crayons, notebook paper, a clear pencil pouch and composition notebooks for children ages 8 to 13.
  • August 22: CSE’s Community Outreach Committee will provide Albemarle Road Elementary School students with school supplies donated by staff during July and August.

Because regularly paid child support strengthens the lifetime bond between parent and child and provides children with many of the essentials for living, Mecklenburg County’s Child Support Enforcement department is working hard to make the child support processes more efficient and easier to access. This includes enhanced services such as:

  • CSE’s customer care center is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. to speak with parents about their case. The phone number is 704-432-9300, Option #7;
  • Easy Pay – a service which makes it possible to pay child support with a credit card;
  • eChild – a 24/7 web network where parents can check their arrears balance, change their employer or personal contact information, or email a question about their account.

If you have questions about Child Support Awareness Month, contact CSE director Joan Kennedy by email.
