Mecklenburg County and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte are collaborating on an exciting opportunity to improve economic opportunity through developing land adjacent to the Stratford Richardson Y on West Boulevard. Planned components include a Community Resource Center (CRC), enhanced Y, and possible relocation of the West Boulevard library branch. Potential exists for the creation of new housing and commercial on the site. Prior to beginning the master planning of the site, Mecklenburg County and the Y want to engage the community in a series of conversations.

About the Stratford Richardson YMCA
Since 2007, the Stratford Richardson YMCA has transformed the lives of children and adults in Charlotte's West Corridor. Named to honor two late civil rights activists – Willie J. Stratford, Sr., a politician and community advocate, and Jim Richardson, former N.C. State Senator, N.C. State Representative and Mecklenburg County Commissioner – the Stratford Richardson YMCA represents the positive change and equality both men fought to see.
The Stratford Richardson YMCA features a 37,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility on 27 acres. The Stratford Richardson YMCA represents the Y's commitment to caring for all people, regardless of age, income, zip code, race or religion. This high-end branch of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte was built to be a community hub, providing transformational programming within the opportunity crescent - an area in which opportunities for families to learn, grow and thrive are scarce.
The Stratford Richardson YMCA currently serves more than 1,600 households. Roughly 65% of its members has a household annual income of less than $20,000.
A beacon of hope for its neighbors, the Stratford Richardson YMCA provides a safe place for people to connect and engage in meaningful programs that prepare children and their families for school success, help seniors avoid isolation and inactivity, inspire and motivate children during out-of-school time, prevent drowning and help teens navigate the path to adulthood.
